Seasonal Pause

Due to holiday interruptions, GDM Habitat for Humanity is pausing the processing of applications. In the meantime, please add your information to our interest list and our team will reach out to you when we resume.

Add your name to our interest list through our online form. Click here to get started. You can also get started by contacting us by email at repairs@gdmhabitat.org or by phone at 515-657-7988.
We process applications on a first come, first served basis. Applications will be reviewed for complete and accurate information (i.e. proof of income, etc.), and then we will reach out to you to discuss whether you qualify.
We typically respond to applications in 5-7 days. However, if your need is more urgent (e.g. a furnace repair in freezing weather), we will do our best to respond in an even more timely manner.
You do not need to have any income to qualify. There is, however, a maximum income. In order to qualify for the Home Preservation Program, the applicants’ gross household income must be no more than 60 percent of the Area Median Income for the number of people occupying the home. The chart below shows the maximum income for each household size.
Seniors and veterans may have a higher income threshold to qualify. Contact our team at repairs@gdmhabitat.org to learn more.

In order to qualify for the Home Preservation Program, the applicants’ assessed home value must be no more than $225,000. You can find your home’s assessed value by visiting your county assessor’s website (Polk County, Dallas County, Jasper County) and searching for your address.

Rural property in Dallas County and Jasper County may be assessed differently. Contact our team at repairs@gdmhabitat.org to learn more.

Yes, but our program is an owner-occupied repair program. Applicants must own and occupy as their primary residence the property for which they are requesting repairs.
Our program is designed to help homeowners remain safely and comfortably in their homes. We are able to assist with a very wide variety of repairs. Past repairs include:
  • Window and door replacement
  • Roof replacement
  • Siding replacement
  • House painting
  • Porch and stoop repair or replacement
  • Accessibility ramp construction
  • Doorway widening for accessibility
  • Walk-in bath and shower installation
  • Grab bar installation
  • Furnace replacement
  • Air conditioner replacement
  • Water heater replacement
  • and more!
The timeline for repairs depends on what repairs are needed and the time at which the homeowner applies. Upon completion of application and qualification process, repairs are typically completed within 120 days or less.
We can serve homeowners twice within a 5-year period.
Depending on the scope of work, we may collect a $50 service fee when repairs are agreed upon.
Visit our “How it Works” page for an explanation of the deferred, no-interest payment.

All repairs completed through the Home Preservation Program are covered by a one-year warranty.

If a deferred, no-interest payment is required, then payment is needed only when the house is sold, even if this is decades in the future. Depending on the scope of work, a service fee and other payments may be required when repairs are agreed upon.
Properties purchased on contract may qualify for the Home Preservation Program, but rental properties do not qualify.
